Potent Power of Scent

The scent of smell is unique to all other senses, and more immediate as it is in direct contact o the brain than the others, which need to go along circuits to reach the brain. It may sound like a difference of milliseconds so what’s the difference, right? But actually it is a huge affect. Scent doesn’t go through the same process our other senses do. Which means how fast it affects us as humans is more potent and more powerful. Because of that, it baffles me that aromatherapy is really not cherished as it should be. Forget perfumes- they developed as a means to deal with and cover the unpleasant scents, and maybe enhance good ones. Aromatherapy is a direct line to bettering ourselves: our mental, physically, and emotional selves. It doesn’t require years of medical schooling or a ton of money. Do some research on food blends, scent attributes, and test a few tinctures. With scent you know immediately if it has a positive affect for you. There is no need to wade through unpleasantness or wait any time to know if it’s working. You know immediately. Yet the world hasn’t embraced scent as a miraculous remedy. Even I only know a few scents that help ease my mood or enliven it. And there are some scents that affect me so differently than others because of my years of associations with them. Cut grass? Ugh, awful. Chlorine? Yes please! What the scents that call to you? Or revolt you? I’d love to know and love to hear if they are part of you self care!
